Dispense Fair Justice – Governor Otu urges Cross River Judiciary

The Governor of Cross River, Senator Bassey Otu has urged the state judiciary to dispense justice with fairness. He made this appeal to the Cross River State Judiciary when Justice Akon Ikpeme along with the State Judiciary, visited the Governor at the Conference Room of Dan Archibong Lodge in Calabar.

During the meeting, Governor Otu expressed his satisfaction with the state’s adherence to the principles laid out in the Constitution, emphasizing the importance of fostering a strong relationship between the arms of government built on mutual trust and confidence.

Governor Otu stressed the critical role of the Judiciary as the last bastion of hope for the common man and the indispensable pillar for a well-functioning society. He urged the Judiciary to dispense justice with fairness and also appealed for mercy in certain cases. The Governor acknowledged the numerous ongoing legal issues involving the state and emphasized the need for collaboration between the government and the Judiciary for the benefit of the people of Cross River.

In working together, our people will not only experience the dividends of democracy but also witness a sense of responsibility from our leaders, Governor Otu remarked.

In response, the Chief Judge of the State expressed her gratitude to Governor Otu for the positive developments initiated under his administration. She assured a harmonious relationship between the Judiciary and the government while also taking the opportunity to discuss pertinent issues facing the Judiciary.

Several high-ranking government officials were present at the meeting, including the Deputy Governor, Hon. Peter Odey, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, and the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh.
