‘Decision Of Zoning Will Be Tabled Before Abia Elders Council’ – Charles Ogbonnaya

 

A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Abia State and an Elder statesman, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya(Evulogu Ibeku), has urged Abians to relax as there is absolutely nothing to worry about as regards the governorship zoning of the state.

Chief Ogbonnaya who stated this in an interview with a cross section of journalists in the state, said the recent decision of the party to zone governorship to Abia North and Central zones, should not cause an uproar in the state, stressing that politics is about discussions.

Recall, that the People’s Democratic Party in Abia State over the weekend, announced that the governorship ticket would be zoned to Abia North and Abia Central senatorial zones.This decision has been emanating series of reactions from the people of Abia North,as well as political stakeholders who blatantly rejected the party’s decision, maintaining that it is their turn to produce the next governor of Abia State.

On the heels of this, the member of the Abia State Elders Council, Chief Ogbonnaya,said the party has the way it functions, revealing that a committee was set up to look into the governorship zoning formula, of which they came up with their resolutions.

“The zoning committee only presented their decision, it has not be confirmed.I dont know why people are worried over this.

“Once the Elders’ council meet,we will review it.Calm down,there is nothing to worry about.There is no need hitting up the polity.

“It is the responsibility of the Elders Council to consider everything and agree with the State Working Committee of the party to reach a balance for the good of all”, he explained.

He further stated that the Governor who is the leader of the party has a say of who becomes the next Governor, as well as the delegates for the primaries election, adding that these views and the views of other Abians would be aggregated to reach an agreement.

“No need to hit up the state,if the governorship is not zoned to your side,calm down. The elders of the state will look into it.Things have to happen for people to discuss”, Chief Ogbonnaya stated.

He said even though the former governor of the state had said power should be zoned to Abia North, “that is his opinion and it does not mean the larger house will not meet to sought the way out”.

Chief Ogbonnaya further urged Abians to relax and allow the politics play out, stressing out that at the end of the day, they should judge the party by its outcome.
