CSO urges IGP to reform SARS

Chairman of the Rivers Civil Society Organization Enefaa Georgewill has called on the acting inspector general of police Mohammed Adamu to actively reform the Special anti rubbery Squad SARS unit instead of decentralising its various unit. Mr Georgewill in an interview described the move by the Inspector General Of Police IGP as an official protocols to reduce bureaucratic bottle neck in the police high command.

” I think it is just official protocols. Nothing critical will change. But I think too that the only thing this sanction will bring is that it will reduce bureaucratic bottle neck. Since they take orders from the commissioner of police, state can actually contact the commissioner of police, state can as well resolve issues very quickly. Unlike when they take orders from the Inspector General Of Police in dissolving anything. We call on the Inspector General Of Police to go beyond just reducing the bureaucratic bottle neck to reform SARS critically,so as to see real and pure changes at the long”

A public servant, Mr Favour Brown, seas it as a welcome development that will bring positive change in the system.

” it is a welcome development. We have had too many stories about SARS, it has become a thorn in the flesh. Every week you hear peoples complain about their ordeal in the hands of SARS officials. With this decentralization, the state commissioner will now monitor their activities and fish out the bad eggs among them ” he stated.
