Cross River First Lady Caution Against Labelling Children Witches, Abandoning And Abusing Them.

The Cross River State First Lady Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu has strictly cautioned against labelling children witches, abandoning as well as abusing the children, but rather we owe the children the responsibility to protect them.

The First Lady used the opportunity of the recent visit of the Child Protector program Coordinator from United Nations Children’s Fund ( UNICEF) Mr. Victor Chima and Child Protection Network team leader Dr. Ken Ikpi to her office to caution against the ill-treatment being enforced on children especially in Cross River State.

She assured the UNICEF representatives her willingness to collaborate with them to advocate and create awareness for the full implementation of the recently passed Child Protection Right Law in the State, she said taking a bold step to protect our children from all sorts of abuse in the State should be paramount.

Mrs Otu promised to involve stakeholders at the grassroots level, schools, and all the communities in the State to archive a positive outcome in reaching all to stop the abuse of children.

She said her office is collaborating with the state Government already to take care of the need of rural women, elderly, the girl child, young school leavers and people living with disability in the State.

In response both the coordinator, Mr Chima and the Child Protection Network leader Dr. Ikpi agreed and expressed satisfaction with the involvement of the Governor’s wife, and her willingness to collaborate with them to create awareness of the Child Protection law to the grassroots, to tackle the menace completely.
