Covid 19: Tension as another set of almajiris invade Abia

As the movement of the Almajiris to the South Eastern part of the country continues to move in a fast spate, raising tension among Abians, law enforcement agents have been called upon to double up efforts in ensuring inter-states borders are effectively secured.

Addressing newsmen shortly after another truck load of almajiris disguising to be carrying  potatoes was intercepted along the Enugu- Umuahia, Portharcourt expressway, the Umuahia North Transition chairman,Comr Lucky Akabuike, expressed worry over the rate at which this northern group beats security personnel at the various borders of five different states into Abia.

According to him, since the ban on  inter-state movement was announced, the Umuahia North taskforce committee on daily basis have been intercepting trucks conveying almajiris, asking the magic that is being used by them to scale through various security Agents at the various borders.

The Umuahia North boss stated that this set of almajiris claimed they were coming from Kano state to offload potatoes in Aba, Abia state and had already passed through more than five borders before being Intercepted and wondered how they pass through security agents, knowing fully well that  they are violating the Federal government’s lockdown directive.

He said the issue of the almajiri’s movement should not be left in the hands of the government to watch alone, especially now that their intent is unknown.

Comr Akabuike, revealed that the level of disguise displayed by the sect, was questionable, as they dress almost in rags, whereas they carry luggages that have beautiful clothes that fit any occasion.

In his words,” I sense pretense, the identity of these people are not known, they camouflage. Come to think of it,why are they carrying luggages about,if truly they joined the truck just for the offloading of the potatoes”, he asked.

The council chairman, however, maintained that there is an urgent need for security agents to rekindle their efforts in checking our borders, as well as fill up the lacuna that allows the movement of these people, adding that he awaits further directives on what to do with the group.
