COVID-19: Ohuhu Welfare Union takes proactive measures to curb spread.

Following the confirmation of two index patients who tested positive to the highly contagious novel COVID 19  in Abia state,the Ohuhu Welfare Union has banned all social gatherings to ensure that the disease does not spread further to communities within Umuahia North LGA.

Recall that of the two patients, one lives in Ukwa, and the other is based in Umuahia North thus making communities of Ohuhu and Ibeku frontline communities for the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic.
The President General,Ohuhu Welfare Union Worldwide, Sir Obi Aguocha in a press release made available to Journalists said, “all meetings of any type in Ohuhu, including Church events, markets, drinking parlors, burials and football or organized contact sporting activities remain suspended indefinitely”.
He added that the move will also help to assist the government narrow down any persons who may have been in contact with the index patient, and to further isolate the immediate village and it’s environs from further spread, should the patient be from or reside in Ohuhu.
According to him,the Union is working through the the highest levels of Abia State Government and it’s Public Health sector to first ascertain the Clan of origin of the confirmed index patient from Umuahia North.
The President General further directed all Town/Autonomous Community Development Unions to henceforth activate their respective *Covid-19 response units* and make their contact information available to the Ohuhu Welfare Union.
He however stated the ongoing food relief efforts for the indigent and most vulnerable, will be ongoing but on smaller scale to reduce the convergence at any place to not more than 10 persons at a time, with everyone wearing nose masks and strictly adhering to social distance protocols.
Aguocha, urged the people to obey the state government’s directives by observing all the required Covid-19 protocols including constant washing of hands with soap and running water,use of original hand sanitizers, maintaining good hygiene, and social distancing and expressed hope that the scourge will be overcome in no distant time.
