COVID 19 LOCKDOWN: ‘Women Are Burden Besrers’

Women have been  commended for their relentless efforts in providing for the family during hard periods, especially this COVID 19 Pandemic and  total lockdown.

They described the pillars and burden bearers for their families.

An Elder States man in Obio/ Akpo Local Government Area, John Wobo, who was interviewed by our reporters, expressed shock on how the Nigerian women are struggling to feed their families during this COVID 19 Lockdown.

Mr Wobo explained that within this period of COVID 19, he was always shocked by the time his wife wakes up and goes out to look for what to use in feeding the family.

According to him, “she moves out swiftly for early morning market that starts by 3.00 Am, comes back, prepares food for the family and keeps awake till late at night with only two hours to sleep”

Mr Wobo also said that this is the time he realize that women are stronger than men when it involves taking a risk to provide for the family. Stating that without them, many families would have recorded number of deaths killed by hunger than by COVID 19. Adding that there is no lazy woman in Nigeria. If they are not Hawking, they are selling at a spot or carrying heavy loads for money consideration, only to make ends meet in a critical time like this.

Similarly, Mrs Ifeoma Anaele, who was the former Women leader of Elelenwo Community told our reporters that during hard times like this as in the time of war, drought, or hardship, a woman is always an idol because she can go to any length to make sure she provides for the family. Stating that a woman cannot sit back and see her children die of hunger. She also said that a woman can do any odd job so that the family is not starved. And can take any risk to beat security net work in order to put food on the table.

“She struggles for the survival of the family. Irrespective of academic qualifications and social heights, a woman is ready to hawk in order to feed the family.
As the COVID 19 lasts, a woman has become the bread winner of the family “. She concluded.
