Council to prosecute defaulters of order on street trading.

Umuahia North Local Government has vowed to  prosecute traders, tricycle operators and commercial vehicle operators who refuse to comply with the directive to relocate to the areas mapped out for them by council for their businesses.

The Deputy Transition Council Chairman, Umuahia North Local Government Area, Hon Eze Okwulehie, gave the warning at the early hours of today after inspecting the level of compliance at the Isi-gate axis added that henceforth, offenders would be made to face wrath of the law.

Hon Okwulehie further stated that security agencies along with the task force set up by the council have been directed to ensure that the traders and motorists at the Isi-gate obey the directive from the government to stop trading, as well as loading of passengers at the Isi-gate axis.

He disclosed that the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief Charles Ogbonna, has unfolded government plan for the establishment of an evening market to replace the Isi-gate trading activities and appealed to the traders and other commercial operators in the areas to comply with the government plan reassuring that the aim was not to use maximum force or deprive them their means of livelihood.
