The Transition Committee Chairman of Isuikwuato Local Government Area, of Abia State, Dr. Osita Igbe and the leader of Isuikuwato COVID- 19 committee together with his team at the early hours of Saturday, intercepted and impounded a vehicle unlawfully conveying Fulanis based in Benin city, Edo state, at the Nnunya axis of Isuikuwato.
Upon interrogation by Dr. Igbe and his team the driver of the Matrix Toyota Vehicle who confessed to be a soldier, disclosed that the passagers (from Benin city in Edo state) were heading to Ohafia L.G.A, of Abia State for a child naming ceremony, which they intended to return back to Benin city immediately after the ceremony.
In order to beat security assigned to guard the land borders, the driver revealed that they left Benin city as early as 4 am.
Interacting with newsmen, the Isuikuwato council boss who has been applauded for his dexterity in handling issues that concerns COVID-19, border closures and monitoring, lauded the security personnel – the army, police force, civil defence, local vigilante among others, for the peaceful working relationship existing between them and the COVID-19 tasksforce committee, which made the work easier; and for the successes recorded so far.
He however, appealed to security personnel assigned to the land borders to put more effort to ensuring that interstate movement is restricted.
Igbe who immediately turned the travellers back to Edo state, commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for the measures put in place to contain/curtail the spread of Corona Virus Disease, COVID-19 in the state.
He enjoined the security personnel and Abians to complement Government’s efforts by strictly adhering to the precautionary measure put in place.
