Members of the political class, clergy, friends and well wishes from all works of life, Saturday, gathered to pay their last respect as the remains of late Ezinne Evang. Jessy Ogbeyalu Ndukwe was laid to rest in her husband’s compound Akanu Item,Bende LGA of Abia State.
The deceased, aged 85, is survived by Seven Children among whom are the Honorable Commissioner for Trade and Investment,Rt. Hon Sir Cosmos Ndukwe and Ezinne Lady Grace Agwu, wife of the Methodist Archbishop of Port Harcourt,Most Rev. Dr. Sunday I.O Agwu.
Speaking at the colorful funeral service, held at Akanu Item Secondary School Field, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu while condoling with the family over the demise of their mother said although her passage may be painful for those she left behind, “it is a harvest time for God and gain to the heavenly kingdom”.
The Governor who described Ezinne Jessy as a hardworker and committed Christan, said the fact that the deceased nurtured and raised an accomplished individual like Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe bears eloquent testimony to her strength and character.
He implored the bereaved family not to mourn as people without hope and urged them to carry on with the legacies which she left behind.
Governor Ikpeazu used the opportunity to direct that the road leading to Akanu Item will be included in the 2021 budget for rehabilitation.
In a tribute, first son of the deceased, Sir Emmanuel Ndukwe while eulogizing the sterling qualities of Late Ezinne Jessy,described her as a woman of virtue, prayer and implicit faith in God as well as a role model who contributed her quota to the growth and development of her family, the church and community.
According to Mr Ndukwe, their late mother taught her children to live in unity, contentment,enterprenuership and hardwork adding that they are consoled by the fact that she has gone to meet her maker whom she served with all diligence.
In a sermon titled “Only Overcomers Will Inherit The Promises Of God”, the Prelate Methodist Church Nigeria,His Eminence Dr. Samuel Kanu Uche, who took his text from the book of Revelation 21:5-8 reassured Christians of a greater future in heaven.
He enjoined all to reconcile with God through genuine repentance adding that only genuine belivers will Inherit the kingdom of God.
While describing the deceased as a philanthropist, prayer warrior, committed Christian, the Prelate noted that later Mama Jessy served God in the Methodist Church and propagated the gospel of Christ.
He urged the children to live by the legacies which their mother exhibited as a child of God while alive.
The burial attracted Senators, Members of the House of Representatives, members of the State House of Assembly, Honorable Commissioners, judges of the state judiciary and the political class as well as Captains of Industries, Market chairmen and executives, the academia, clergy, traditional rulers among others.
