CONNAK commended over palliative works on road

A call have been made to Non Governmental and Non-profitmaking organizations to assist governments in tackling various humanitarian challenges in the society.

The Project Supervisor in CONNAK FOUNDATIONS, Mr. Chikezie Ekwe, who made the call recently while inspecting some ongoing projects embarked upon by the foundation within Umuahia metropolis among which is the rehabilitation of Low cost-Olokoro road, stressed that government cannot do every thing for the citizens.

He added that assisting the government in any little way the foundation could is a part of her corporate social responsibilities and quota contribution to the development of the State.

He said, “We noticed that this road is becoming a death-trap for roadusers due to its deplorable state, and as it is ,we are trying to fill and maintain the road, so that motorists can enjoy its accessibility especially in this yuletide period that is”.

Ekwe further disclosed that CONNAK Foundation is a non profit making organization with a vision to tackle youth unemployment and its attendant issues by creating opportunities for economic empowerment and growth in the eastern part of Nigeria.

“Most of our youths have become drugs addicts, most of them are jobless, you can see the number of people working on this present project since we started, they are paid on daily basis and this will keep them busy.

“If we engage in these kinds of charity work often, you will find out that there are lots of things that foundations or individuals could do for the society and these are some of the things i will advise other foundations to emulate”, he added.

Ekwe, however, stressed that even though the COVID-19 pandemic slowed the intensity of what the foundation had planned to do, the foundation had also handled various humanitarian projects by partnering some other organizations to perform surgeries, payment of hospital bills of the less privileged on admission at the Federal Medical Center,Umuahia, among others ,adding that they are still poised to do more especially in alleviating the sufferings of women.

In their separate remarks, a former Deputy Transition Committee Chairman of Ukwa East Local Government Council, Hon. Lady Cecilia Okere, and a Keke operator, Mr.ThankGod Okojo, thanked CONNAK foundation for supporting the State Government in alleviating the sufferings of abians in their little way, and noted that the palliative work they have done on the road would help reduce the rate of crashes on the road.
