Committee for the 32nd Abia Day celebration has been inaugurated and charged to effectively carry out the assignment for a successful and memorable Abia Day celebration.
Inaugurating the committee at the Conference Room, office of the SSG, the Governor, Dr. Alex Otti described this year’s Abia Day celebration as a special and people-oriented event, which according to him will focus on impacting the less privileged, vulnerable and Abians in general.
The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Kenneth Kalu pointed out that this year’s celebration is not going to be the usual jamboree. He explained that it is going to be a period to touch the lives of Abians through medical outreaches, empowerment and visit of the First Lady to hospitals and orphanages.
The State Executive Governor, who disclosed that the activities to mark this year’s event will start on the 22nd of August to the 29th of August listed them to include, a formal press briefing by the SSG and the Commissioner for Information and Culture on Tuesday, 22nd, and on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th August, there will be visits to orphanages and hospitals in the three senatorial zones by the First Lady and her team while Friday 25th, there’s going to be special jumat prayers in the mosques across the state and a novelty match between the Executive council members and the members of the House of Assembly in the evening.
He further disclosed that there’s going to be a special environment exercise on Saturday 27th between the hours of 7 am and 10 am, and from 12 noon to 5 pm, there will be free medical outreaches across the three senatorial zones. Also, on the same day, there’s going to be a church service at one of the Seventh-Day Adventist churches and on the night of the same Saturday, there will be music concert
There’s going to be a state broadcast by the Governor, Dr. Alex Otti on Sunday 27th August 2023 morning and church service at the same day
On Tuesday, the 29th of August which happens to be the last day of the event, there will be an anniversary lecture on the theme ” hitting the reset button” which means changing the narrative and thinking of a new Abia of our dream
Also speaking, the commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu who noted that the team is set out to position the state as a compassionate people oriented state, maintained that the present administration is set out to do things differently so as to achieve the desired goals for the good of all.
