Commercial drivers decry non compliance by transport unions

National Ambassador.October 26, 2019 Nyesom LikeRivers State GovernmentUnified ticketing system

Some commercial drivers in Port Harcourt have expressed worry over the non compliance of some transport unions with the unified ticketing system launched by the Rivers State Government.

Some of them who spoke to our reporter said despite their willingness to buy the daily ticket sold by the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service, they are still compelled to buy other ticket from some unions. Some of the drivers who welcomed the unified ticketing system urge the State Government to help sensitise these unions and stop them from selling other tickets.

“The people that are selling the other ticket are still saying that we need the Local Government ticket. That without that one we can’t operate and they will still hold us. Please the government should look into this matter”

” we still have other tout or task force members that will like to collect money, because most of them are eating from the sales of ticket ”

” let government officials go to the whole park in Rivers State and tell them. Because if we buy the government ticket, we will not buy any other ticket. If it happens that any park we enter and they ask us to buy another ticket, we will block the road, nobody will work ”

Recall that the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service started the unified ticketing system for commercial transport operators on October 21st. The ticket come in form of a scratch card, where the buyer would need daily acquisition and load the pin to get a notification for the authenticity of the ticket.
