Collapsed Umuenyere Alayi–Item Road: Mayor Bassey Assures Swift Government Action
The Executive Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. Dcn. Uwabunkonye Bassey, on Monday visited the site of the collapsed Umuenyere Alayi–Item Road, promising immediate government intervention to restore the vital roadway.
The road, which links several communities in the area, caved in following several days of intense rainfall and erosion, effectively cutting off access and disrupting movement for residents and commuters.
Mayor Bassey, during his on-site inspection, sympathized with those affected by the collapse and expressed relief that no lives were lost in the incident.
He described the situation as “a wake-up call” underscoring the urgent need for proactive attention to critical infrastructure within the local government area.
“The safety and well-being of our people remain a top priority. We are already working closely with the relevant state and local agencies to ensure that the road is repaired as quickly as possible,” he said.
Accompanied by Hon. Okechukwu, the Councillor representing Amankalu/Akoliufu Ward, and other local officials, the Mayor assured the public that remedial works would begin shortly to restore the road and prevent further erosion.
Local residents welcomed the visit and expressed hope that swift action would follow to ease the hardship caused by the road collapse.
