Simon God’s power, a civil servant, highlighted the significance of the Civil Service as the backbone of any responsible government during the 2023 Rivers State Civil Service Week. Speaking in a phone conversation with our reporter on 26 July, he emphasized the need for a cordial relationship between the Civil Service and the Government.
According to Mr. God’s power, a harmonious understanding between the two entities would mitigate industrial actions, which have been prevalent due to the government’s alleged disregard and neglect of civil servants in the Nigerian system. He stressed that a conducive and supportive work environment provided by the Government would inspire workers to give their best.
During the 2023 Civil Service Week and Awards Ceremony held on 25 July at the Alfred Diette Spiff Civic Center in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, represented by his Deputy Prof. Ngozi ODU, called upon civil servants to exhibit steadfastness, loyalty, and commitment to the success of his administration. She stated that Governor Fubara acknowledged the vital role civil servants play as the machinery for implementing government policies and has assured that his administration would continue to recognize and appreciate their conscientious contributions and sacrifices towards national development.
The workshop’s theme was “Digitalization of Work Process in the Public Service: Gateway to Efficient Resources Utilization and National Development,” reflecting the government’s commitment to modernizing public service practices for greater efficiency and progress.
As Nigeria moves forward, the spotlight remains on fostering a harmonious relationship between the Government and the Civil Service to achieve a more productive and prosperous nation.
