Chuba Youth Leader killed by cultists in Rivers State

Unknown gunmen suspected to be cultists, recently, shot and killed a youth leader of Rumuchuakara clan in Choba community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was gathered the slain community leader, Emmanuel Ikechukwu Eyinda, was also the vigilante group leader of his community.

It was leant that Eyinda was killed in the presence of his wife and children around 10.00 p.m. last Wednesday at his residence.

It was gathered that Ikechukwu, popularly called, Iyke who is also a youth leader in Choba community, had allegedly interrupted the cultists before they (cultists) killed him.

An eyewitness, who spoke to newsmen on the condition of anonymity, said that the assailants of Eyinda forced their way into his residence before shooting him dead.

He said, “The gunmen forced their way into Iyke’s house around 10: 00 p.m. and shot him in front of his wife and kids.
“People who heard the gunshots ran for safety, but we later discovered that the shooting was targeted at Iyke, who died on the spot.”

In a similar development, two persons in Lewe community, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, yesterday morning, sustained bullet injuries following heavy shooting occasioned from a suspected attack by unknown gunmen, a situation which had forced residents of the communities to desert the area.
A resident of the Lewe community told correspondents that the shooting started in the morning hours, adding that the reason behind the attack was still unclear.

The victims are receiving treatment now; the reason for the attacks is still unclear to us, most the villagers who are afraid have started moving out of the community to avoid being affected.”
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the killing of the Choba youth leader, but could not confirm the shooting at the Gokana community.

“I can confirm the killing of a young man today at Rumuchuakara, in Choba community by unknown gunmen, but I don’t have the report of the shooting in Lewe community”, Omoni said.
Omoni noted that the victim was killed by yet to be identified individuals, but quickly added that the Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Dandaura, has ordered investigation into the killing, adding that police has restored normalcy in Choba.
Meanwhile, Rivers State,Youth, especially those in universities have been advised to withdraw themselves from any cult practice.
