Mrs. Priscilla Otti, the wife of the Governor of Abia State said that children are the greatest treasure of parenthood; their safety and well-being are non-negotiable.
The Governor’s wife stated this at her government house office today in Umuahia, during a christmas party she organised to celebrate Abia children.
Mrs. Otti explained that christmas is a season of joy, love, sharing, and extending hands of compassion to people around us.
The Governor’s wife reaffirmed her commitment to championing strategic initiatives that will enhance the growth, development, and well-being of Abia children.
According to her, “during the just-concluded 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, I reaffirmed my commitment to building an Abia where the rights, dignity, and safety of every individual, including our children, are upheld”
“We will not tolerate acts of violence and abuse against our children in Abia State.
Child trafficking is a terrible crime that affects many children around the world.
This is unacceptable, and we must work together to prevent it, ensuring our children are safe and protected. We must create awareness about the dangers of child trafficking, abuse, and molestation even as we strive to
rid out traffickers out of Abia State,” Mrs. Otti further stated.
However, Mrs. Otti emphasized quality education as a necessity for every child in Abia State, regardless of their background or circumstances and
appeals to parents to take time to engage in meaningful conversations, lead by example, and create an environment that fosters kindness, empathy, and respect for the children.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Maureen Aghukwa represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Ogechi Oguama expressed that the efforts put together by the office of the wife of the Governor to celebrate the children means that they are precious.
Mrs. Oguama reiterates that her ministry is continuing the advocacy for the child right act to be reviewed and domesticated in order to protect the right of the children.
In their separate remarks, while the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Mrs. Ngozi Felix advised parents to nurture and uphold the moral compass of the society for their children to emulates, the Commissioner for Basic Education in the state, Elder Goodluck Ubochi emphasized that Governor Alex Otti prioritizes the development of our children through quality education.
“This is the reason, the Governor has gone ahead to declare free education at the basic level with interventions in remodeling our schools in Abia, “.
The event featured drama, dance, games, quiz and sharing of gifts to children by the wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti.
