PROFILE OF CHIEF SIR CHRIS NKWONTA (OKE OJI ABIA).
Chief Sir Chris Nkwonta is the flag bearer of People’s Democratic Party for the seat of Member Federal House of Representatives for Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency in the 2023 general election.
Sir Chris Nkwonta is a man with a very humble background.His life epitomizes God’s abundant love and mercy blended with dint of hardwork having passed through thick and thin to be where he is today.
Born into an average christian family in Akwete,Ukwa East LGA.Sir Nkwonta almost couldn’t complete his secondary education due to paucity of funds but as one determined to succeed,he had to toil sometimes missing school to farm and fish to be able to complete his secondary education.
After secondary school he got employed by Pan African Bank Port hardcourt where he worked and saved money to pursue his dream career at Centre for Business Studies,London.
He holds a degree in Shipping and Transport Studies and a Masters degree in Business Management,Today he is a household name in business and politics.
He has vast experience in public sector having served Abia State as the Chairman of SURE P,where he displayed an uncommon administrative skill and recorded many achievements for Ukwa people including the building of a brand new 300 patients capacity ward and renovation of the entire hospital with doctors’ quarters.He also worked with Mobil Exxon Oil Ltd and Daddo Shipping and Maritime Company Limited as General Manager before setting up his own company,Blue Seas Shipping company Limited and others.
An entrepreneur of immense proportion with interests in shipping,oil and gas etc.A philanthropist of unparalleled dimension hence the numerous philanthropic activities he has carried out through his foundation (Sir. Chris Nkwonta Foundation).
Chris Nkwonta Foundation is a non profit organisation.It is a humanitarian organization with the main thrust of providing human capacity building, provision of health care,education,skills acquisition and empowerment of indigent people.It is the vehicle through which Chief Sir Chris Nkwonta implements his philanthropic and people oriented programmes.
The drive behind the establishment of the foundation was borne out of his belief that those who are not fortunate enough should be assisted to realise their potentials.Thus the foundation was created to give back to society out of what God has generously blessed him with.
The foundation took off in April 2010 and has recorded the following successes.
1,Sponsorship of over five undergraduates and post graduate students abroad.
2,Granting scholarship to over 100 undergraduates from Ukwa East and Ukwa West in universities in Nigeria.
3,Granting scholarships to over 200 secondary school students from JSS one to SS three.
4,Training and equipping over seventy youths of Ukwa in skills acquisition
4,Provision of electric transformers to communities to energise their electricity.
5,Sponsorship of quiz competitions among secondary school students.
6,Financial support to churches and communities for development purposes.
7,Sponsored players of Dream Land football Academy on a training tour of Portugal.
8,Offered free medical treatments locally and abroad to many families
9,Rehabilitation of failed portions of the Obehie to Azumini road.
10,Donation of complete band sets to primary Schools in Ukwa East and Ukwa West.
11,Rehabilitation of some physically challenged persons in Ukwa.etc.
All these were carried out with personal funds.
Chief Sir Chris Nkwonta is widely travelled and happily married with children.He is a lover of Christ hence his investiture by the
prestigious Council of Knights of Ukwa Anglican Diocese as Knight of Saint Christopher.He holds many chieftaincy titles conferred on him by many communities in appreciation of his philanthropic gestures to them.
He was also honoured with the revered title of OKE OJI ABIA by Abia State Governor in recognition of his immense contributions and service to the development of Abia State.
He is a lover of mankind and always ready to offer himself for service to his people of Ukwa for the peace and progress of Ukwa land.
