The Coalition of Eastern Non Governmental Organisations (CENGOs) on Wednesday flagged off the house to house campaign against gender based violence as well as a sensitization programme on Sexual Reproductive Health Right in the three senatorial districts of Akwa Ibom State, which included, Uyo, Ikot ekpene and Eket.
The group also solicited for the support and cooperation of members of the community.
Flagging off the campaign, CENGOs Programme Officer in Akwa Ibom, Felicia Robert at the Mbiabong Ikot Essien village in Uyo,urged the people to cooperate with the community educators and report any gender based issue or sexual health complaint to them for referrals to the appropriate quarters.
Robert who presented the community educators to the people told them that CENGOs are being sponsored by Amplify Change and Civil Resource and Documentation Centre, CIRDOC.
On the time for the community education, the program officer said that would be scheduled at their convenience so that it would interfere with daily and normal activities.
“The reason we are here is to inform and introduce to you some community educators that would be going from house to house and taking you on different topics that relate to sexual and reproductive health including gender based violence.
“I want you to own the programme and accommodate the community educators when ever they come to your households. As per the time, the programme was not meant to inconvenient anyone, therefore time should be fixed when convenient.” She said.
In his remarks, the village head of Mbiabong Ikot Essien, Eteidung Hosea Edem Okon, thanked the people for coming out en-masse to listen despite the short notice given.
He however promised to ensure that the educators in his community are protected and safe while going about their work.
