One year ago, Dr. Alex Otti took over the mantle of leadership Abia State, promising a “rebuilding process” and a brighter future for Abians. In a short span, he has demonstrated unwavering commitment and visionary leadership, tackling headlong the state’s most pressing challenges. From healthcare and education to infrastructure and economic development, Governor Otti has set a new standard for governance. His efforts have not only revitalized key sectors but also restored the pride and dignity of ndi Abia.

 

 

Under his administration, Abia State has witnessed transformative changes that underscore his dedication to fostering sustainable growth and creating an environment conducive to investment and innovation. The prudent management of resources has been central to these achievements, ensuring that every initiative is impactful and sustainable. Governor Otti’s leadership has been marked by transparency, accountability, and a genuine desire to improve the lives of all Abians.

As we reflect on the past year, it is evident that the foundation laid by Governor Otti’s administration is one that promises enduring progress and prosperity.

 

 

Pointedly, Governor Otti immediately prioritized the healthcare sector, allocating a robust budget to enhance service delivery. His administration restored accreditation for the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, cleared health workers’ salaries, and implemented measures to reduce maternal and child mortality rates
Also, in a bid to revamp the state’s education system, Governor Otti launched a comprehensive plan to reconstruct and remodel schools across the state. This initiative includes the reconstruction of 170 primary and 51 secondary schools to meet 21st-century standards, as well as improving teachers’ welfare to attract and retain qualified Teachers.

 

In the same vein, Governor Otti embarked on a massive road rehabilitation project, addressing long neglected urban and rural roads. Notably, key roads in Aba and Umuahia have been renovated and expanded, including the Port Harcourt Road, being handled by world class contractor Julius Berger.

To tackle the issue of insecurity, the action Governor Otti established the multi-agency security outfit, ‘Operation Crush, inaugurated the Security Advisory Council, and the Abia Security Trust Fund, all working towards reducing significantly crime rates across the state.

 

Furthermore, under his leadership, the State has witnessed improvements in the ease of doing business, with strategic initiatives aimed at attracting local and foreign investors. The establishment of the Abia Global Economic Advisory Council underscores his commitment to building a self-sustaining economic hub. The Abia Industrial Innovation Park is being established to attract businesses and boost the state’s economy.

 

 

On workers welfare, Dr. Otti’s administration prioritizes the welfare of retirees, cleared pension arrears, and instituted a new payment system to ensure prompt and full disbursement of pensions. And today, pensions are paid alongside Abia workers’ salaries on or before 28 of every month.
