CARABAO CUP SEMIS: Spurs Shock Liverpool

Liverpool lost their second match of the season and saw their 24 match unbeaten run come to an end as they lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the semi-final of this season’s Carabao Cup.

Lucas Bergvall scored his first goal for Spurs as Domnic Solanke set him up after holding off substitute, Ibrahima Konate. Solanke had scored earlier but his goal was ruled out for offside and for the first time the referee, Stuart Attwell announced the decision to the fans.

Liverpool felt that the 18 year old goal scorer, Lucas Bergvall should have been sent off a minute earlier. The Teenager was already on yellow card when he caught Tsimikas in a late tackle that deserved a yellow card. Rather than issue Bergvall a second yellow card, Attwell issued a yellow card to one of Slots assistants for the protest from Liverpool’s bench.

Spurs will take their one goal advantage to Anfield on February 6 for the second leg.

Recall that Newcastle United brightened their chances of reaching a second League Cup final in three seasons, when they defeated Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirate.
