Newcastle United took a huge step towards reaching their second Carabao Cup final in three seasons with a 0-2 victory over Arsenal in the first-leg semi-final encounter.
Alexander Isak scored his 14th goal in 15 games when he scored the first goal of the match in the 37th minute, after lifting a composed finish past David Raya.
Anthony Gordon doubled the visitor’s lead in the 51st minute when he converted a rebound after Raya parried Isak’s shot.
Arsenal had chances as well but failed to convert any of their chances.
The second leg will take place at the St James’ Park on 5th February.
Later today, Tottenham Hotspur will host the defending champions, Liverpool in the second semi-final. When both sides met in the league, the match ended 3-6 in favour of Liverpool.
The final of this season’s Carabao Cup will take place on 16th March at the iconic Wembley Stadium.
