BOXING DAY ACTION: Liverpool Extend Lead As Chelsea, Man United Stumble

Liverpool are now seven points above second placed Chelsea despite having one outstanding match after they came from behind to defeat Leicester City 3-1.

Jordan Ayew put the visitors in front in the sixth minute but Liverpool equalized through Cody Gakpo just before half-time.

Curtis Jones, who was making his 100th Premier League appearance put the Reds in front in the 49th minute before Mohamed Salah put the icing on the cake with eight minutes to go. This victory came on the backdrop of Chelsea losing at home to Fulham.

The drop of a pin could be heard at the Stamford Bridge after substitute Rodrigo Muniz scored the winner as Fulham came from behind to clinch a 2-1 victory over their neighbours. Cole Palmer had put the Blues in front with a 16th minute sublime strike, but Chelsea failed to kill-off the game. Eight minutes to the end of the game Harry Wilson equalized for Fulham and as Chelsea push forward to regain their lead, they ended up conceding.

Ten-man Manchester United were once again disunited and devoured by Wolves at the Molineux. The bad night started with Bruno Frnandes getting a red card in the 47th minute for a second yellow card.

Eleven minutes later Matheus Cumha scored from a corner kick just like Son Hueng-Min did against the Red Devils a week ago. As United push forward for the equalizer, a quick counter attack exposed United once again as Hwang Hee-Chan scored the second goal seconds before the final whistle.

United are now languishing in 14th place with just 22 points after 18 matches.

In the first action of today, Erling Haaland missed a penalty as Manchester City settled for a 1-1 draw with Everton at the Etihad Stadium.

Bernardo Silva latched on to Jeremy Doku’s pass to put the home side in front in the 14th minute. Everton restored parity with their first clear cut chance through Iliman Ndiaye in the 36th minute.

Seven minutes into the second half Vitalii Mykolenko brought down Savinho inside the penalty area, but Jordan Pickford saved Haaland’s penalty to ensure the match ended 1-1.

Bournemouth and Crystal Palace settled their clash at the Vitality Stadium goalless while goals from Anthony Gordon, Isak and Joelinton gave Newcastle United a comfortable 3-0 victory over 10-man Aston Villa as Jhon Duran was sent off in the 32nd minute.

Nottingham Forest moved up to third on the table after Anthony Elanga’s solitary strike gave them all three points against Tottenham Hotspurs. Similarly, Jarrod Bowen scored the only goal as West Ham United defeated Southampton.
