Bayelsa Government Ready to Support Education and Health Partnerships.

The Bayelsa State Government has expressed its commitment to support the development of education and health by partnering with well-meaning organizations.

The Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, made this known during a courtesy visit by delegates of the Kumbowei National Association (KNA), Bayelsa State Chapter, to his office at Government House, Yenagoa.

He highlighted the important role of socio-cultural organizations in supporting the government to provide essential services and improve the lives of the people. He also emphasized that protecting lives and property is the primary duty of any government, and that the Governor’s administration will continue to focus on improving education and healthcare in the state.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo said the government is ready to work with serious organizations, as it cannot meet all the socio-economic needs of the people alone. He praised KNA for its development-focused initiatives, including an Educational Scholarship Trust Fund and Community Health Outreach, and assured them of government support.

He encouraged the association to submit a detailed plan for its upcoming Development Summit and suggested rotating the hosting of the event among different communities to promote cultural unity.

“We believe socio-cultural organizations play a key role in the development of society. We are always ready to support organizations with clear and meaningful objectives. These groups help strengthen culture, communities, and guide people. At the same time, I encourage you not to focus only on cultural matters but also take education and health programs seriously,” he said.

The National President of KNA, Prof. Peter Ayunku, explained that the visit was to brief the Deputy Governor on the association’s goals and to seek government support for the 2025 Kumbowei Heritage and Development Summit scheduled later this month.

Prof. Ayunku, also a Professor of Banking and Finance at Niger Delta University, praised the government for being responsive and willing to partner with community and youth-focused organizations to promote peace, cultural preservation, and economic empowerment. The summit will showcase Kumbowei cultural heritage and bring youths and elders together for mentorship.

Dignitaries present at the visit included the Commissioner for Special Duties, Bayelsa West, Mr. Michael Magbisa; Chairman of Sagbama Rural Development Authority, Chief Fred Dabirilagha; the Amananaowei of Sagbama Town, His Royal Highness Ojo Magbisa; and the Tungbabiri Community leader, His Royal Highness Godbless Fetonbofa, among others.
