The wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has praised Barrister Chijioke Nwankwo, the mayor of Bende Local Government Area, for supporting women in Bende to aim for higher positions in government in order to promote development in their communities.
The Governor’s wife made this statement at the August women’s conference of Bende Local Government Area, which was organized by the Mayor’s wife, Dr. Uno Chijioke Nwankwo, at the Council Township Stadium.
According to Mrs. Otti, “Bende Local Government Area plays a significant role in Abia state, especially as a major rice-producing region. Your ongoing contributions to the agricultural sector are not only vital to our economy but also a source of pride. I encourage you to continue your efforts, knowing that you are actively building a better future for our state and its people”.

In her speech, the mayor’s wife, Dr. Uno Chijioke Nwankwo, praised Governor Otti for his administration’s dedication to women’s inclusivity. She also commended Mrs. Otti for the significant progress made in empowering women.
Dr. Uno, represented by Mrs. Ngozi Anya, said that Mrs. Otti’s efforts in sensitising women and the girl child about gender based violence is yielding great results .
Anya, described the mayor’s leadership of the council as one that has created an enabling environment for women to succeed in their different pursuits. She also mentioned that the mayor’s vision and support have contributed to the success of the Bende August Women Conference.
In his remarks, the mayor of Bende LGA, Barr. Chijioke Nwankwo stated that it is true that the august women conference has become a rallying ground for women to discuss issues affecting them and at the same time contributes their quota in the development of their respective communities.
However, listening to the views expressed by the women has also equipped us with information on the areas we need to intervene as leaders at the grassroots.
“Bende women are predominantly farmers and we have done a lot of rural grading and remedial works in our roads through which our farm produce can easily reached the market ”
