The Governor of Abia state Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has called on the proprietors of mission schools to assist government to eliminate moral decadence prevelent in our society.
Ikpeazu made this call during the commissioning of the ICT laboratory with over 30 set of computers at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican seminary, Laguru in Umuahia South L. G. A. Abia state.
The Governor represented by his deputy sir Ude Oko Chukwu ,assured the Church that Government will partiner with them in uplifting the standard of education, hence the need to split ministry of education into basic and post basic education.
Earlier in his address, the Anglican Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Geoffrey Obijuru Ibeabuchi, said the church has spent a lot in renovating the dilapidated building of the school through the effort of good spirited members and solicit for financial assistance to enable the school procure more computer sets to enable the school qualify for JAMB center.
Ibeabuchi also solicited help to buy 100 KVA generating set, and air conditioners.
In his vote of thanks, the venerable in charge of St Paul’s Parish Uzuakoli road Umuahia, Rev Sam Onuha, thanked the governor and all who graced the occasion.
He promised that they will put into good use every Kobo donated to the school.
The ceremony witnessed the award of scholarship to a student of the school Miss Kama Mary Iheomamere by the Governor’s representetive for her brilliant performance.
The Commissioner for Basic Education Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma, Abia Secretary to the State Government Barrister Chris Ezem, represented by Mr Okey Ihedioha, a PDP Chieftain in the State, Chief Tony Ukasanya, Council of knights and their Ladies, House of Clergy and other personalities attended the ceremony.
