Arondizuogu Begins Ikeji Festival Countdown in Aba

The Arondizuogu community in Aba, Abia State, has commenced its pre-Ikeji festival celebrations, signalling the start of activities leading to one of its most important cultural events.

The vibrant gathering drew indigenes and visitors from various communities, featuring colourful displays of masquerades, traditional music and cultural dances that showcased the community’s rich heritage.

Held annually, the pre-Ikeji festival serves as a prelude to the main Ikeji festival an iconic cultural celebration that attracts participants and tourists from across Nigeria and beyond. It offers a platform for the people of Arondizuogu to celebrate their history, values and enduring traditions.

Speaking at the event, the chief host, Dike Nwa Mazi, expressed appreciation for the strong turnout and active participation of community members. He urged indigenes and cultural enthusiasts to support the forthcoming main festival, describing it as an opportunity to project their heritage to a wider audience.

A major highlight of the celebration was the appearance of several masquerades, including the energetic Aka Eze Igwe and the widely admired Omo Darkness, among others. The occasion also fostered unity and social interaction, with attendees enjoying an array of traditional delicacies, refreshments and music, reinforcing the communal spirit of the people.

In his remarks, a prominent community figure, Ikpoeze I of Arondizuogu (Ebigi Ebigi), assured visitors of a warm reception during the main festival. He noted that the community is well prepared to host guests, promising food, entertainment and a memorable cultural experience.

Following the success of the pre-festival activities, anticipation is building for the main Ikeji festival, expected to be an even grander celebration of Arondizuogu’s cultural pride.
