APC seeks cancellation of Enugu council election results

The commission had  announced on Sunday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the entire 17 local government chairmanship positions as well as the 260 councillorship seats.

But in the petition addressed to ENSIEC chairman, Chief Mike Ajogwu, the APC said it was rejecting the results in entirety and accused the commission of compromising its responsibility.

The party had written: “Please take note that the All progressives Congress APC, by this letter do hereby reject in its entirety the purported results of the Enugu state local government elections purportedly held on November 4, 2017” Entitled, “notice of rejection of the results of Enugu state local
government election” the APC, said its resolve to reject the results was based on the fact that “the ENSIEC chairman, Dr. Ajogwu, acting directly and through his agents and employees wilfully and wantonly refused to allow APC agents to observe the distribution of sensitive electoral materials before and during the election.

The letter signed by state chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, and made available to reporters added: “this willful and act was perpetrated in order to give the Peoples Democratic (PDP), undue advantage during the election proper.

It added that the decision was taken because “the ENSIEC chairman, acting directly and through his agents and employees gave the results sheets to agents, members and candidates of PDP. Shortly thereafter, PDP, agents filled in the results sheets, and allocate winning numbers to their candidate.

The APC equally accused the commission of failing to provide results sheets at the polling units and collation centres, alleging that the commission also failed to make appropriate security arrangements to prevent electoral violence which marred the election.

“As a result of that, great number of APC supporters, candidates, and leaders suffered severe bodily harm” adding that the polls which was characterized by violence, that resulted to heavy gunshots left many people suffered gunshot wounds, stab wounds, kidnapping, torture, molestation and false imprisonment

“For the forgoing reasons and others not mentioned herein, All Progressives Congress demands immediate cancellation of the purported local government election held on November 4, 2017”, they demanded.
