Anyim Ude Memorial Lecture: Olu Akpata, Nnia Nwodo, Call On Journalists To Hold Government Accountable

The National President, Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ) Comrade Chris Isiguzo, has described the late Senator Anyim Ude, as a source of inspiration to all media practitioners.

Comrade Isiguzo, who was speaking at a memorial lecture in honor of late Senator Anyim Ude held at Enugu Sports club said the late Senator, was a cerebral Journalist who contributed immensely to the development of the profession.

He described him as the longest serving Chief Executive Officer of government owned media houses in the South East and urged members of his family to take solace in the fact that their late father lived impacted and fulfilled life.

Also Speaking, Chairman on theOccasion and Former President General, Ohaneze Ndigbo Chief John Nnia Nwodo said, it is now left for all practicing journalists to follow the footsteps of late Senator Anyim Ude in ensuring professionalism in the practice of journalism and identified him as an Elder statesman who paid his dues in all aspects of life.

In a lecture delivered on the topic ” Freedom of the Press, fake news and the rule of law”, the former president of the Nigerian Bar Association Mr. Olu Akpata, charged Journalists to be alive to their responsibilities in order to hold government accountable.

He added that without the press, labour unions and lawyers, government will continue to drift away from policies that will stabilise the society.

Meanwhile, expressing their gratitude on behalf of the Anyim Ude family, the first son Mr Nnanna Anyim Ude assured that the legacies of their late father will remain evergreen and thanked all who graced the Occasion.
