Alhassan meets Buhari, keeps mum on defection

The minister of women affairs Aisha Alhassan, who once declared support for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.

Alhassan refused to answer questions from state house correspondents concerning Abubakar’s resignation from the APC after the meeting.

Since the former vice-president ditched the party, there have been speculations that some top personalities may follow suit.

Having said she will support Abubakar should he contest for president in 2019, Alhassan is believed to be among those who may leave the ruling party.

A few months ago, she openly expressed her support for Atiku, saying that even if Buhari decides to contest in 2019, she would still pitch her tent with Abubakar.

“Atiku is my godfather even before I joined politics. And again, Baba Buhari did not tell us that he is going to run in 2019,”  She said

“Let me tell you today that if Baba said he is going to contest in 2019, I swear to Allah, I will go before him and kneel and tell him that ‘Baba I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve your government as a minister but Baba just like you know I will support only Atiku because he is my godfather.”
