The Akwa Ibom state Secondary Education Board has appointed seventy one (71) new principals in the secondary schools of the state, to fill existing vacancies in the state.
The Akwa Ibom state executive chairman of the board, Mr Umana Umana reveals the figure while briefing the newly appointed principals on their responsibilities and expectations from the government, the state executive chairman explained that the heads of schools were selected on merit and due diligent and describe the task ahead of them as enormous.
He therefore advised them against working in isolation and encouraged them to team up with their various communities and the board in order to succeed, he informed them that they will be held responsible for any administrative lapses in the schools as government will not welcome any form of excuses of failures, he charged them to work for the success of the governor of the state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel as they represent him in their various schools and communities.
Also, addressing the heads of schools, the Akwa Ibom state senior special assistant to the governor on education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet challenged them to adopt innovative ideas that will improve the quality of education delivery in the state, the senior special assistant charged them to be fully responsible for their different schools and be alive to their responsibilities.
She advised them to see themselves as parents, mentors and teachers so they can get the right cooperation from all education stakeholders.
The permanent secretary of the board, Barr. Nse Isang described the heads of schools as high priests and therefore advised them to take their work seriously. She advised them to shun any form of extortion, as the board has set up a committee on education monitoring, she also reminded them that Akwa Ibom state government is operating tuition free, anybody caught violating it will be highly disciplined.
