The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Mike Igini had decried the poor turn out of people in the collection of their Permanent Voter Cards saying that less than fifty percent of the population had collected their PVCs thus far.
Igini who made the disclosure Monday in Uyo revealed that out of 145,737 PVCs printed and delivered to the state, only 24,420 PVCs had been collected.
His words,”Akwa Ibom has not attained 50 per cent of PVCs collection in the state.
Only 17 per cent of PVCs have been collected in the state.
“No individual can vote without a PVC but unfortunately there has been very poor response to collection and this should be a matter of concern to all stakeholders.
“So far, only 24, 420 have been collected out of 145, 737 PVCs printed and delivered to the state.”
He said that there was urgent need for stakeholders to mobilize and sensitize voters on the need to collect their PVCs.
Igini said that the Commission had earlier announced the extension of Saturday and Sunday for the collection of PVCs across the 31 local government areas to accommodate as many people as possible.
He added that the Commission had completed soft ware enhancement to improve on the sensitivity of the card reader as part of effort to improve on 2019 general elections.
He implored political parties to commence the process of identifying who will be their party agents at various polling units across the state.
“You all know how you assisted to mobilise the people to register by bringing them from various local governments to the center.
“Please do well enough to mobilise them to various local governments, to collect their PVCs” he said.
