Following her contributions to restoration and maintenance of peace and development in her council area, Ibeno Local government, Akwa Ibom State, the Chairman, Hon Glory Ekah has been bestowed with an International Peace Medal Award, tagged Global Peace Diplomat by the International Organization of United Nations Peace Volunteers.
Ekah, it was gathered, had played invaluable role in stemming the tide of restiveness and bringing about peace, healing and sustainable development to her community which has been enmeshed in land ownership dispute with neighboring communities.
Receiving the award at the council headquarters on Friday, the Chairman thanked the International Organization of United Nations Peace Volunteers for the honour done her. She also dedicated the award to his people and the governor of the State, pastor Umo Eno.
According to her, “This recognition is not mine alone, it belongs to the men and women of Ibeno who have risen above hardship and embraced unity, ho dared to believe that reconciliation is possible,”
She highlighted the progress made under her administration, pointing to infrastructural development, restored trust, and a rekindled sense of community as evidence of transformative governance anchored on peace and inclusivity.
She also paid tribute to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, commending his ARISE Agenda for providing a peaceful and progressive framework that enabled her achievements.
“I remain grateful for his exemplary model of compassionate and people-oriented leadership.
May we continue to labour for a society where every child may dream without fear, where every community thrives in harmony, and where every life is treated with dignity and worth. She said.
Calling on leaders to embrace empathy and reject divisive politics, the Chairman stated, “Peace must never be passive… Leadership must not be measured only by the positions we occupy, but by the lives we touch, the bridges we build, and the hope we restore.”
The award marks a significant milestone for Ibeno LGA and reinforces its growing role in the narrative of peace-building in the Niger Delta region.
