The bill, presented to Governor Akeredolu for his assent by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Oladiji Olamide, underscores the administration’s commitment to bringing governance closer to the people and enhancing public service delivery. Richard Olatunde, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, affirmed this commitment, stating that Governor Akeredolu remains dedicated to delivering impactful projects and innovative initiatives.

In an official statement, Richard Olatunde, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, announced that the bill has received the governor’s approval. The key figures from the State House of Assembly who were present during the bill signing ceremony included Deputy Speaker Mr. Abayomi Akinruntan, Majority Leader Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, and Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Moyinoluwa Ogunwumiju, among others.

According to the statement, the bill, which had previously gained the State House of Assembly’s endorsement, now carries the necessary legal support to establish the Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ondo State.

The creation of these LCDAs represents a significant stride in fulfilling Governor Akeredolu’s campaign commitments and addressing the community’s desires for improved grassroots development. Governor Akeredolu remains steadfast in his commitment to delivering impactful projects and pioneering initiatives, and he is determined to redouble his efforts in advancing the development of the Sunshine State.

However, the creation of these LCDAs has not been without controversy. Allegations of marginalization raised by certain communities have triggered upheavals within the state. Some communities have also voiced concerns that lands belonging to towns and villages are being ceded to different local councils within the state under the pretext of establishing LCDAs.
