A woman whose two wards died in the collapsed Lagos building” has committed suicide.
It was gathered her two children – one 6, the other 4 – were delivered by the woman through Cesarean Sections (CS).
The woman, according to her neighbors, went for the rat poison called “sniper”, which was found beside her lifeless body. One of her neighbors who craves anonymity narrates:
“Nobody knew what she wanted to do with the Sniper. But a few minutes later, we saw the bottle beside her where she was sleeping and we found out that she was already dead”.
To get you up to speed, an otherwise residential three-storey building, which had the third floor compromised into a Nursery-cum-Primary School had collapsed in Itafaji area of Lagos Island on Wednesday 13, around 11. 00am. As at the latest count, a pregnant woman, the proprietor of the makeshift School, Ohen Nursery and Primary School, and thirteen pupils have lost their lives, while 41 persons are being treated in the hospital, according to Sahara Reporters.
The scene has been a beehive of activities as emergency experts and sympathizers throng the vicinity. Same goes for Lagos Island General
Hospital, Marina, where the surviving victims are taken to for treatment. Exasperated mothers and guardians can be seen frantically milling around the premises.
An aggrieved Mother, who simple gave her name as Yetunde, can be seen in pensive strides around the hospital premises and has not taken a wink since the unfortunate incident. Her child had fractures in both legs and is presently spotting a Plaster of Paris (PoP).
Against this backdrop, more than 180 buildings has been earmarked for demolition by the Lagos State Government. It is estimated that close to a thousand buildings in Lagos Island alone are passed their usefulness and therefore potential death traps.
