African Drum Festival 2019 is a unique platform held recently in Abeokuta city, Ogun State, designed to promote Africa’s drum culture, rich cultural heritage and to impact knowledge on various techniques of drumming and also aimed at bringing African together through dreams.
“The need to enlist the growing Youth in African Setting with Continental heritage by leveraging them with divers drums and music, becomes paramount, towards keeping the cultural inheritance alive.”
Deputy Governor of Ogun State and Committe Chairman, 2019 African Drum Festival, Chief (Mrs) Yetunde Onanuga, stated this during the opening ceremony of the Fourth edition, African Drum Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
From various States in Nigeria, some Africa Nations and beyond, international master drummers and leaders troupes such as Dennis kirimi Naurure from Kenya, Luc Yatchokeu from Cameroon, Jeleel Ojuade from Nigeria, Aimad Kachina from Morocco, Noumoucounda Cissokho from Senegal, Sofiane Frendi from Algeria and others, with the increasing number of participants to the drum fiesta, participating troupes, express their joy of being part of the ceremony and give the tip of the iceberg. Diginitries, Guests and Past Governors in Nigeria, Royal Fathers and Some African Leaders, converged on the newly constructed Amphitheatre within Abeokuta City Centre, for the event to felicitate with the Festival Visioner, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on the occasion.
In her opening address, Deputy Governor of Ogun State and Committe Chairman, 2019 African Drum Festival, Chief (Mrs) Yetunde Onanuga said, there is every need to preserve the unique Culture of not only in Nigeria but across Afrcican Nations.
Some of the guests on the ground, commended on the improvement over the last three editions of the festival of drums.
Others say, there is need for leaders in their various domains, to emulate the promotion of Culture as being champoined, by Ogun State.
Meanwhile at the event, unveiling of Adire Ogun seal Authenticity as an international brand from Ogun State, Nigeria unseal by Governor Ibikunle Amosun
And the sound of drums, rented the air.
