The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon defeated the Stallions of Burkina Faso 2-1 in the opening match of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Vincent Aboubakar converted two penalties late into the first half to ensure the hosts take all three points.
Burkina Faso started brightly despite not having their coach, Kamou Malo and six players who tested positive for COVID 19. Gustavo Sangare opened scoring to silence the home fans mid-way into the first half.
But reckless tackles by the duo of Bertrand Traore and Issoufou Dayo gave the home side two precious penalties which they converted.
Cameroon will take on Ethiopia in their next match on Thursday while Burkina Faso lurk horns with Cape Verde Island the same day.
