Abuja Chamber Of Commerce,Industry Inaugurates Rep Onuigbo As Chair, Climate Change Trade Group

The Sponsor of Nigeria’s Climate Change Act, and Member representing the South-East on the Governing Board of the North-East Development Commission, Rep. Sam Onuigbo, was on Thursday, February 8, 2024, inaugurated as the Chairman of the Climate Change Trade Group of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry(ACCI).

 

Onuigbo’s inauguration was during the Inauguration Ceremony of the 12th President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry(ACCI),Chief Emeka Obegolu SAN, PhD, which was held at the Abuja International Conference Center.

 

Reacting to his inauguration, the former Member of the House of Representatives said he is immensely aware of the impact of climate change on trade and businesses, citing the examples of change in transportation routes, disruption in the production of raw materials, among others as examples.

Onuigbo who highlighted that climate change costs businesses globally billions of dollars said he will use his experience to attempt to ensure that climate change considerations are mainstreamed into the activities of businesses under the ACCI.

 

Established in 1986, the Abuja Chamber of Commerce represents the common interests of the business community in Abuja.

The event was attended by many dignitaries including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu; Members of the National Assembly; representative of the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite; representative of the wife of the Senate President, Her Excellency Ekaette Uloma Akpabio; His Royal Majesty Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe (Obi of Onitsha); captains of industry; members of the diplomatic corps and others.
