ABSG Intensifies industrial Oversight as Top Officials Visit Key Manufacturing Hubs in Aba

In a move to strengthen industrial growth and encourage responsible business practices, senior officials from the Abia State Ministry of Industry and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) paid a working visit to two major companies located in Umueme Village, Obingwa Local Government Area, off Okpulumubo Road, Aba.

The delegation was led by the Honourable Commissioner for Industry and SMEs, Mazi Mike Akpara, and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Industry and SMEs, Lady Chinwe Kanu Ubah. They were accompanied by the Director of Industry, Director of SMEs, the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, the Perm. Sec. Dr. Ihemama, and the ministry’s Legal Adviser.

During the visit to GZI Manufacturing Limited, the team was warmly received by Mr. Nwankwo Obi Brain, the company’s Human Resource Manager. The visit was part of the Ministry’s oversight function to assess the operational compliance of industries within the state. Discussions focused on the payment of government taxes, the companies’ corporate social responsibility to host communities, and alignment with the developmental vision of Governor Alex Otti.

The officials later proceeded to Adagh Glass Packaging Industry Limited, also situated in Umueme. Management of the company shared concerns that are affecting their daily operations, including poor road access to the factory, unstable electricity supply, and past challenges with multiple taxation. They, however, acknowledged that under the current administration, there has been a significant reduction in tax burdens and greater responsiveness from government agencies.

Speaking during the visit, Lady Chinwe Kanu Ubah, the SA to the Governor on Industry and SMEs, emphasized the administration’s commitment to building an investor-friendly environment across the state. She noted that Governor Otti’s leadership is not only focused on attracting new investors but also on supporting existing businesses to thrive. Her strong grassroots engagement and hands-on leadership were applauded by industry stakeholders.

In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner, Mazi Mike Akpara, expressed the government’s determination to address the issues raised. He assured the companies that their concerns, especially regarding infrastructure and power supply, would be communicated to the Governor for necessary action.
