Abia State Governor’s Wife, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu has advised the chairpersons of the 17, Local Government Area of the state to keep abreast with political happenings in the state and see themselves as political stakeholders to move the state forward.
The Abia First Lady gave the advice when the chairpersons paid her a courtesy visit in her Government House Office in Umuahia recently.
She noted that as chairpersons, it is pertinent to engage other women leaders in your LGA in political decisions for them to be good ambassadors of Governor Ikpeazu’s developmental agenda in the rural areas.
According to her, “as we interface from time to time, a lots are expected from us by the virtue of the position we occupy, complement your husbands and see your office as an extention of what we do here”.
However, the Governor’s wife task the chairpersons to be advocates of preventive breast cancer, sickle cell disease by encouraging women and would be couple to get tested.
In her address, the leader of the group, Mrs. Nwachi Nnaji, said that they came to show solidarity with the wife of the Governor on the numerous projects she has been carrying out through her Vicar Hope Foundation and at the same time thank her for her support to Governor Ikpeazu in appointing their husband’s as transition committee chairmen to the state LGAs.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the wives of commissioners in the state have resolved to play a complimentary role in keeping the home front for their husbands to concentrate in the arts of good governance and help the Governor achieve his five pillars agenda of development and its enablers in the state.
The Commissioners wives were led by the wife of the Commissioner for justice, Mrs. Adaobi Ihediwa, who pledged on behalf of her colleagues to help their husbands carry out their duties diligently.
In her remarks, the Governor’s wife said that enormous responsibilities are placed on the Commissioners such that needs peaceful atmosphere for them to acquit themselves of the confidence reposed on them by the Governor.
Again, as wives of commissioners, create sustainable programmes for yourselves and as a theme let us do our work diligently to improve the lives of Abians and impact positively on the society at large.
