Abians in Diaspora Commission Bill Sponsored By Hon Ukoha, Passes Into Law

A bill known as Abians in Diaspora Commission and other Matters (ADCOM) Incidental Thereto (HAB 21), sponsored by the Minority Whip/member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha, has been passed into law by the Abia State Assembly.

The bill among others, seeks to establish the ADCOM, to monitor the welfare of Abians in their country of domicile; assist them in investment and development opportunities in Abia State, as well as Nigeria in general and also enable them render voluntary services in Abia State in order to achieve overall development of the State.

Fielding questions from newsmen in Abia House of Assembly Complex Umuahia Abia State today, Hon. Dr. Ukoha, thanked all Abians in Diaspora, noting that a giant stride has been recorded today.

He also expressed delight in the Speaker, Abia House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji and co-sponsors of the Bill as well as his fellow lawmakers for supporting the Bill and giving it to the accelerated hearing that it deserves.

The Minority Whip also lauded the secretaries at desk,  the Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora Matters, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Erondu, and members of Abians in Diaspora organizations worldwide for their contributions during virtual public hearing, adding that the Bill will help to bring about positive synergy between Abians in Diaspora and the Abia State government.

The lawmaker who expressed confidence that the Abia governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu would sign the bill into law, maintained that the  commission would also fulfill its mandate.
