Abia unveils plan to change environmental landscape

Abia State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Aham Uko, has revealed plans by the Okezie Ikpeazu-led government to plant trees and flowers to beautify the environment. He said efforts are also on to create parks and gardens at strategic locations within the state. Addressing members of the Seventh Day Adventist Youth Ministry, Abia North Central Conference, who embarked on voluntary cleaning and clearing of Umuahia roads, Uko said his ministry would soon provide leisure facilities for people of the state. He thanked the youths for demonstrating patriotism and zeal in response to the Biblical saying, “cleanliness is next to godliness”.

Also speaking at the event, Abia State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, applauded the youths for keying into the Ikpeazu administration’s agenda of developing a clean and green Abia.He said Ikpeazu directed that sanitary inspectors be deployed to the streets with mobile courts to enforce sanitation rules. Earlier, the leader of the youth team, Elder Ubani Ezebunwa, explained that his group embarked on the exercise to support the efforts of Governor Ikpeazu to keep Umuahia clean. He praised the leadership of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) for providing vehicular support to the group.
