The Ministry of Tertiary Education has extended warm congratulations to His Excellency, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti OFR, on the occasion of his second anniversary in office, commending his visionary leadership and transformative impact on the state’s education sector.
In a joint statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner, Professor Uche Eme-Uche, and the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Chinyere Okeziem-Nwoko, the Ministry praised the Governor’s unwavering commitment to development and inclusive governance, particularly in the area of tertiary education.
“This milestone marks not just a passage of time, but a celebration of purpose-driven leadership,” the statement read. “Your declaration of a State of Emergency in education has catalyzed unprecedented transformation across Abia’s higher institutions.”
The Ministry highlighted significant achievements under the Governor’s watch, including:
Renovation of long-neglected hostels at Abia State University (ABSU)
Construction of new academic and administrative structures at ABSU and Ogbonnaya Onu University of Science and Technology, Aba
Comprehensive upgrade of the Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu
Restoration and securing of full accreditation for Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, and ABSU
Regular payment of salaries and clearance of salary arrears for tertiary institution staff
Unprecedented allocation of 25% of the state’s total budget to education
“These initiatives have not only repositioned Abia’s education sector at the forefront among Nigerian states but have also laid a strong foundation for sustainable growth and national competitiveness,” the Ministry added.
