Abia State House Of Assembly Passes Resolution Urging Immediate Action On Dilapidated Roads And Social Rehabilitation Initiatives

Abia State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the Governor to draw the attention of the President to the dilapidated state of the Umuahia – Bende – Ohafia – Arochukwu road as well as the dangers of the abandoned Igwu bridge Ozu Abam and their previous contracts with the view of constructing them.

Announcing the resolution on the floor of the House, the Speaker, Rt.Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa said the House also urged the Senator for Abia North District to intervene on the road.

They also urged the Governor to construct the abandoned Ozu Abam – Ndi Okereke Abam – Arochukwu road and through the ministry of Works and other relevant agencies construct the local link roads in Arochukwu state constituency.

The resolution followed a Matter of Urgent Public Importance on the age long dilapidated state of all the roads linking Arochukwu LGA brought before the House by the Majority Leader and Member representing Arochukwu state constituency, Hon. Uchenna Okoro Kalu praying the House to intervene to give the people a sense of belonging and boost the IGR of the state through the increase in agricultural produce from the area.

The House also passed a resolution urging the State Government to through its relevant ministry or agency set up rehabilitation centers in Aba to take care of victims of bad parenting, pick pockets,beggars, drug addicts and their likes as well as create productive sources of livelihood for those rehabilitated to make them better citizens and prevent them from returning to drugs and crime.

This followed a motion on the need for the state Government to curb the menace of touting in Aba with a view to redirect them into productive workforce presented by the member for Aba Central State Constituency Mr Ucheonye Akachukwu.

On a motion for the Abia State Health Insurance Agency to live up to its responsibility presented by the member for Isiala Ngwa South, Hon. Rowland Dennis, the House resolved that its joint committee on Finance and Health to investigate and report back.

The Speaker, Rt.Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa announced the constitution of 25 Standing Committees of the House with all the members heading one committee or the other as he encouraged members to work together and ensure the success of the present administration thereby serving Abians better.

However, the Speaker further announced the commencement of their annual recess and for the House to reconvene on the 19th of September.
