Abia State House of Assembly Advances ‘The University of Aba Bill, 2023’ for Second Reading

Abia State House of Assembly has passed for second reading H.A.B 1: “The University of Aba Bill, 2023”.

The bill which seeks to provide a law for the conversion of Abia State polytechnic Aba to University of Aba and for other related purposes scaled through its second reading following debate on the floor of the House on the bill.

In his lead debate, the sponsor of the bill and Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.Emmanuel Emeruwa said the bill when passed will ensure the conversion of the polytechnic to a university and interdisciplinary institution that will attract more students, facilities, create more job opportunities and generate more revenue internally to serve the people better.

In their separate contributions, some of the members who spoke in support of the Bill including the Deputy Speaker, Mr Okezie Augustine, the member for Bende North Dr Nnamdi Ibekwe and the member for Ikwuano, Mr Boniface Isienyi described the bill as timely as it will address the admission deficit of university admission seekers from the state and address the knowledge gap if the needed equipment and infrastructures are put in place to make the graduands self reliant and job creators among others.

The Speaker further committed the bill to its committee of the whole for further legislative action.

The House also adopted it’s reversed standing rules 2023 for usage as the rules of the House.
