The Abia State Government Tuesday, officially signed an agreement with the Organized Labour to implement the New National Minimum Wage, including its consequential adjustments.
The official signing of the agreement between the Abia State Government and Organized Labour, formalizes the adoption of the new minimum wage and adjustments.
Under the new wage structure, Grade Level 1, Step 1 workers will now earn a minimum salary of N70,000, with adjustments reflected from Grade Level 1, Step 2 upward.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Alex Otti, represented by the Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, expressed satisfaction over the agreement, adding that it is a “win-win” for both the government and the workforce.
“I am glad to announce that on behalf of the Abia State Government, that we have been able to have a landing; a win win for all”.
“This is the “Signing of the agreement between Abia State Government and Organized Labour on the implementation of the new minimum wage and the consequential adjustment”, he stated.
Pastor Ajagba thanked the Organized Labour for their maturity and patience throughout the negotiation process, adding that the updated wages would soon be reflected in the workers salaries.
“Abia State workers will be receiving their salaries reflecting the new minimum wage. Level 1, step 1 will receive the minimum wage of N70, 000”, he said.
Responding on behalf of the organized Labour, state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Abia State Chapter, Comrade Ogbonnaya Okoro said, “Today marks another landmark of the implementation of the new minimum wage into law for Abia workers”.
Comrade Okoro expressed gratitude to Governor Otti, all government officials, Organized Labour, and technical teams for their dedication to the process, adding that “the long-awaited wage issue has come to limelight”.
He commended Abia workers for their patience and commitment, assuring them that the development was “just the beginning.”
In her vote of thanks, the state Head of Service, Mrs Ngozi Queen Obioma expressed happiness of the signing of the new national minimum wage and its consequential adjustment.
She thanked Governor Otti for the unprecedented magnanimity and fatherly support he displayed throughout the process and assured that workers would not take the administration’s goodwill for granted.
