Abia State Government to Partner with Caritas Nigeria on Treatment of HIV/AIDS

Mrs. Priscilla Otti, the wife of Abia State Governor, has expressed her enthusiasm for collaborating with Caritas Nigeria to uplift the lives of the underprivileged in the state.

During a courtesy visit by the Caritas Nigeria team to her Government House Office in Umuahia today, Mrs. Otti commended Caritas Nigeria’s efforts in raising awareness about the perils of HIV/AIDS, providing treatment to those affected, and supporting out-of-school children in the state to re-enroll in schools.

She emphasized that these are crucial areas requiring the collective intervention of all stakeholders to advance the state.

Furthermore, Mrs. Otti conveyed that Governor Alex Otti’s administration remains committed to establishing robust institutions in the state to address its multifaceted challenges effectively.

Earlier, Mr. Charles Okoli, the leader of the visiting team, who explained that Caritas Nigeria is a humanitarian agency associated with the Catholic Church, also outlined that the organization’s programs encompass activities in the healthcare sector, managing orphanages, promoting peaceful coexistence in society, and facilitating the return of out-of-school children to the educational system.

Regarding their specific mission in Abia State, Mr. Okoli explained, “our core mandate in Abia state is to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS by seeking partnership with the state government to subsidize its drugs so that those already affected will be treated.”
