The Deputy Chief of Staff to the Abia State Deputy Governor, Barrister Chijioke Nwankwo, has reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and prudent resource management during the 2026 budget defence session for the Office of the Deputy Governor.
Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, Barr. Nwankwo presented the proposed 2026 budget before the Ministry of Budget and Planning, emphasizing the office’s constitutional role in supporting the Governor and advancing the administration’s policy thrust.
Tagged the “Budget of Consolidation,” the 2026 fiscal plan is geared towards strengthening human capital development and accelerating socio-economic and infrastructural growth. Nwankwo highlighted key focus areas, including agricultural expansion, peace building, and the continuation of people-oriented initiatives.
Reflecting on the office’s performance in 2025, he cited the Deputy Governor’s active involvement in committees promoting peace, reconciliation, and agricultural revitalization initiatives aligned with Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti’s governance agenda.
Barrister Nwankwo appealed for an upward review of the office’s budgetary allocation, noting that increased funding would enhance operational efficiency and service delivery.
Responding, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Kingsley Anosike, underscored the importance of the budget defence exercise, describing it as a vital step in determining the state’s spending priorities amid limited resources.
He urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to streamline their requests in line with fiscal realities, while reiterating that the 2026 budget is designed to consolidate ongoing developmental efforts.
The session ended on a constructive note, with officials, including the Director of Administration, Rev. Sister Iheme Nkemdirichukwu; the Director of Finance, Mr. Nmecha Udo; and other finance personnel in attendance.
