Abia Sports Council Hosts Maiden Seminar To Boost Staff Competence

 

 

The Abia State Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Wednesday, organized Maiden Seminar for the staff of the State Sports Council to enhance the skills and capacity of the council’s workforce.

 

 

With the theme; “The Roles and Expectations of Abia State Sports Council in Sustaining the Present Developmental Strides in Sports,” the seminar is a significant step by the State Government in reinforcing the skills and dedication of the Councils staff and setting the stage for sustained sports development.

 

Declaring the One Day Seminar open at the Umuahia Township Stadium, the Head of Service (HOS) Abia State, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Obioma, emphasized that the seminar aligns with Governor Alex Otti’s vision of a competent and professional workforce dedicated to advancing the state’s development.

 

 

Dr Obioma who noted that Capacity Building is essential for development and upgrading, pointed out that the seminar is an opportunity to elevate the capabilities of the workforce.

 

 

“This Seminar is an event that would upgrade your capacity the more. When we talk of development and upgrading, there is no other way it can happen except through capacity building.koo

“This is in line with the vision of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, which is to generate and to establish a workforce that is competent, professional enough and willing, dedicated to see that we move forward”, Dr. Obioma stated.

 

 

She urged participants to leverage on the seminar and create a significant impact that would bring civil servants to the forefront as effective leaders, coaches, and administrators.

 

The State HOS applauded the Director of Sports and his Management Team for organizing the training and also acknowledged the Sports Council’s achievements in a short period, urging them to continue making Abia State proud through their sporting activities.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Nwaobilor Ananaba, represented by the Sports Advisor Mr. Eric Asumogha reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to establishing Abia as a premier sports destination.

He emphasized the importance of training in achieving improvements and set goals, highlighting that everyone has a role in sustaining sports development in the state.

 

 

In his keynote address, the Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Mr. Chinedu Ekeke, encouraged participants to identify and nurture young talents in the state.

 

 

Ekeke who spoke through Mr. Raymond Ukwa, urged staff of the ministry to leverage on the evolution of sports to contribute to the state’s economic growth.

 

 


In his remarks, the State Director of Sports, Comrade Obioma George, underscored that the need to sustain the strides made by the Sports Council under Governor Otti’s leadership.

 

 

He cited the council’s achievements, including winning gold and silver medals in para powerlifting, para badminton, judo, table tennis, taekwondo, basketball, and volleyball as well as the the recognition of council official.beyond Africa.

While highlighting some challenges faced by the council, Comrade George who expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for revitalizing sports in the state appealed for assistance to enable the council overcome their challenges.

 

He commended the Governor for approving the first-ever secondary schools competition held in March this year and assured that the Sports Council would continue to make Abia state proud.
