Abia Speaker speaks on prudent implementation of 2019 budget

The Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Chikwendu Kanu has charged Ministries, Departments, Agencies, (MDAs) and Parastatals in the State to be meticulous and prudent in the implementation of the 2019 Budget Appropriation.

Kalu who gave the charge while declaring the 2019 budget defence open at the Committee Conference Hall of the House of Assembly, said budget defence is key and must be done by all government establishments in the State as long as the Governor had presented same for the fiscal year adding great care must be employed to ensure that at least 60 per cent implementation is achieved.

He, however, charged the civil servants and Heads of MDAs to be meticulous and frugal in its management and further urged them to show commitment in the capital project and other vital aspect of their respective budgets.

Kanu pointed out that it would not be business as usual as the House of Assembly is poised to do something differently to ensure conformity and credibility.

Earlier, the Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Rt. Hon. Kennedy Njoku had also stated that the event is an annual ritual that must be done by the MDAs noting that the House would be very particular on the level of implementation this year.

While stressing on the importance of the budget defence to the State government, Hon. Njoku, therefore, warned that any of the MDAs or Parastatals that fails to appear before the committee on agreed date and time will face severe sanction from the House of Assembly.
